Ever since you-know-who got angry at a bunch of churchbodies who were
giving Gallileo a hard time. :>

<instructions & help on HDD care deleted for space>
I have Norton Utilities.
I use them frequently -- have to with Arachne.
Ran Speed Disk yesterday, which -- as part of the defrag process --
sorts and rewrites directories. Just checked again & getting same error
message.
I was gonna say that HDD couldn't be problem, cuz 1.66 was having no
problems ... then remembered it's on a different physical HDD. :> So to
keep you happy I'll save this and then run NDD.
Back in a flash with more of the trash ....
NDD says:

If you think about it, the ability to sort the messages and write a new
index, an index easily read by InSight, sorta disproves your theory of
possible FAT problems.
But just to show it is specific to my installation of v1.70r3, I went to
1.66 and then from desktop went to Arachne/mail/members.hip on the T:
drive ... there 1.66 had no problem reading the individual messages
within that subdirectory. [It didn't know what to do with the index
files, since I wasn't calling things up through InSight ... but it knew
a message was a message and displayed it via InSight.
Note also: The problem is not with the InSight version issued with
v1.70r3. I know that to be a fact, because the InSight version being
used with v1.66 is the *newer* version -- the one I copied over from
v1.70r3 to see if it would help reduce the lost cluster chains. [It
seems to have done that, btw]
Thus, the problem lies specifically within the Arachne specific files of
v1.70r3 [And yes, I just double checked to see if the messages in
arachne/mail/members.hip could be read by v1.70r3 after running NDD and
after v1.66 could read them. Thus, re-reconfirmation the problem is
specific to v1.70r3.]
