I'll bet that what happened is this....
Without realizing it it,
you mistakenly hit Alt+D when you meant to hit Shft+D.
(Are your Alt keys directly below the right-hand/left-hand
of the Shft keys)

(as you can see... it would be quite easy for the finger to slip off of
the Shft key and hit the Alt key by mistake)
