I forgot to mention that if I continue working in the editor after
the "unknown hangup" Arachne will sometimes attempt to redial
and reconnect even though by all indications I should still be online.

So I get a dial tone and a an attempt to connect that fails. Sometimes

Arachne will make multiple attempts to dial.

This happens only on occasional while working in the editor while
online. I hear the modem hangup and Arachne redials.

That's all I know.
