   Mdem is internal.  There are no compot and/or IRQ conflicts.                 
   Long before my ever having posted my observations I had 
   already experimented with changing the BIOS settings in the
   manner you suggest.  No matter what I do these two modems 
   on these two machines won't work in DOS in any mode other
   than the "restart Windows in MS-DOS mode"
