No. We need their imports, most notably oil, and they need our
exports. Cessation of all trade with those countries would be
most detrimental not only for us but for them as well. When in
their countries Americans should respect their laws and when they
are in our country they should respect our laws. Most people do
not have a problem with that. Closing one's self off from the rest
of the world accomplishes nothing in the way of diminishing hatred
unless one withdraws to a meditative and religious life style. Very
few people have arrived at the stage of enlightenment where they
are ready to adopt such a way of life. Those who are only slightly
enlightened have already realized that one is not at all protected
from hatred and persecution simply by isolating oneself from the
world and living as a humble monk or nun. Simply fleeing from
those who hate you does not take away their hate, nor does it
discourage them from pursuing you any further. You have no choice
but to submit as a coward or to stand up and fight the best way you
know how, whether by non-violent means or otherwise.
