You are absolutely correct. Songs were good. > Given that Ashutosh has done > only 3 movies with Rahman and the soundtracks so far have been all well > received by the majority of moviegoers itself says something. Tell me > one thing; you didn't like Yeh Jo Desh from Swades? You didn't like > Jashn-e-baharaan from JA? I liked all songs of Swades. I liked all songs of Lagaan. I liked Jashnebahara, Lamhon ke daaman and Khwaja of JA. > Swades didn't do well at the BO but it's one > of my fav hindi movies of all time. Now you are talking about the movie. Previously you were talking about the music. They are two different things. Hope you notice this switch you are making - from music to movie, that is causing all the confusion in several posts of so many members in this thread. Let me clarify. I said JA music and JA movie went in different directions, and the grandeur of JA movie drowned (and downed) the soft songs of JA. The songs - at least the three that I mentioned above, i find good. There was no such difference in Lagaan the music and lagaan the movie. There was no such difference in Swades the music and Swades the movie. Lagaan and Swades music fitted well in Lagaan and Swades Movies. Hope that it is clear now that I am not letting down the music of these three movies, nor I am finding anything wrong in Lagaan and Swades movies. But JA is a confused movie. And the last example, JA music was as out of sync with JA movie as Azeemoshaan Shahanshaah song and its scene would have been if it had been fitted somehow in Lagaan or Swades music or movie. > It could have been better but it's > still pretty solid. Of course you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that > but you are the first Mani fan I’ve known who doesn’t like AG’s work. > Very interesting. AG likes ARR's music himself and that is clear from the good treatments he had given to all songs in Lagaan and Swades. Only in JA, he lost that connection and ended up getting a music from ARR that didn't fit his fim and songs went unnoticed in the film. Nice to see a detailed, factual, analytical reply at last. This is the real discussion that would strengthen this list.
