Lisa,

At this point I expect to see a User Tool through at least 3 or 4
more versions of ARS. (post v7.0.1) But I might be surprised to see it
go away sooner. But when/if it goes away then there will be a "new
way" to do the "old tricks" too. So no worries, just dreaming to
follow...

What I expect will happen with ARS Macros in the future...

1) No conversion utility for client side macros.
They even dropped it from the admin tool in v7.

2) A complete replacement of the idea on the client.
Maybe some kind of "JavaScript or Java" based library/objects that
the user can use to "do the jobs" that the Macros use to do and many,
many more things too.
In v7 with Data Visualization fields you likely could achieve the
run time processing of a Macro already. Today it would take a good
deal of work to setup the DVF for such a process, but it seems
possible to simulate most of a Macro this way. The "advantage" will be
when BMC makes the amount of work "easy enough" for my average user to
be able to use it. :) Like the ability for the Mid-tier to "record
actions" and save them in a way that a DFV (or other similar type
thing) could later process.

My hope is that the end solution will be functionally more like what
"Visual Basic for application" does for MS Office than what the
current Macros do for ARS. (and just to be blunt and clear, VBA sucks.
Javascript/Java is much preferred IMHO.) Extend the base product
instead of just "recorded actions" and "limited objects". (But who
knows what the future might hold.)

We mostly just have normal macros that customers create. I hear that
Mid-Tier does not have a macro tool yet. (Even in 7.0)

Lisa
