We've always done the manual change to the ar.cfg of other server group members. If I recall, it doesn't do it automatically. But our process now is to just change it in the Admin tool on one server, manually edit the ar.cfg on the others, then cycle all of them.

The password once changed from the AR Admin tool, writes the encrypted password to the configuration file and simultaneously changes it in the DB and there is no need to recycle the Remedy server. The process is transparent and does not affect an end user. Its only when you are behind a server group, I think you need to copy the changed password from the primary servers configuration file to the other servers and possibly recycle them as you do it. I do remember asking Remedy Support about it and they told me that you do not manually have to do that, but I am yet to confirm that to be true. Maybe someone out there has already done this and could confirm if the servers in a server group automatically gets that configuration line updated without the need of a manual intervention.. At least that's what the documentation says (DatabaseRefGuide-630 pg. 54). In Gary's case the PW was changed in the database directly, so he had to go thru hoops to re-sync the App server. Thanks for all the help guys. For future reference, if anyone is doing this in the future, here is the order of events that must take place for SQL Server if they are changing the password on your ARAdmin account: Update the new password in the Remedy Administrator tool Have the DBA (or if you do it) change the password in the database Cycle remedy server (this step may or may not be necessary) This is the only order in which it seems to work, it's also the most logical if I would have just thought about it first :) Thanks, Gary Opela, Jr Sr. Remedy Developer Leader Communications, Inc. 405 736 3211 -----Original Message----- From: Action Request System discussion list(ARSList) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Grooms, Frederick W Sent: Friday, January 04, 2008 9:03 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Database password for ARAdmin account What DB are you using?
