I added submitter write. I hope this is it. If this fixes it, then in my opinion, this should be a bug, since the user has an explicit group with write access to the field, he/she should not have to have implicit group write permissions as well, even though the user only has read access.
The user that can test this for me is out right now, so I'll have her check when she gets in.
