The outage occurred twice.

First time UNIX team reported the process was running and had to kill it
before restarting,

The second time the process was not running at all.

Nothing in the AR System Email Error Logs

The UID/PWD are correct and do not expire, and when we restart the
process it works fine - which would indicate the UID/PWD are correct.

We enabled Debug mode yesterday, but the process has not failed yet.

I had one thought last night - we have this system running for over 4
years and I need to check but the record count in the AR System Email
Message form is huge,

I've asked or Oracle team to complete a health check on the DB today.

Regards,
Keith.

I just noticed the time when you sent this. OUCH! :)

What specifically did your Unix team say when they said the email engine
wasn't running? Was the process running but hung? Or was it just not
running at all?

And did your AR System Email Error Logs say anything?

I've run into various problems with the email engine 7.x where it will
hang, die, etc. The solutions other people have offered are
appropriate. There are a bunch of other things to check as well - the
first making sure your UID/PWD being used for the email engine incoming
email account hasn't expired.

Subject: Remedy Email Engine not polling inbound emails

**

Hi,

Yesterday our production server stopped polling the inbound mailboxes,

1. The logs (email and arerror) do not should anything for the time
window
2. Our UNIX team reported that the email engine was not running
3. All outbound email was working fine
4. We are on ARS v7.1 / Oracle 10 / Solaris 10

Has anyone else encountered this behavior?

Regards,
Keith.
