Sam, You'll be fine. When I went last year, I had only been working with ITSM for not even 2 years. At my company, I am involved with both the business process and technical implementations of ITIL and the ITSM suite. Without going into the fine details, it is a great opportunity to learn new things as well as evaluate new tools and development practices that you can then apply in your own environment. More importantly, for me, it was good to get out of "the box" I was in at my organization. When you live this stuff day in and day out, sometimes you get lost in the monotony and you lose sight of how other companies do certain things and manage the tool and processes in their environment. It's a good place to take a step back and talk to other people like you to see how they are implementing the product.
As an example, in our environment, the consulting group that implemented the process for importing People records from an outside DB used a staging form, a view into the other DB, and a series of escalations and filters to achieve the result of populating the People form. This is what I thought the "norm" was a noob. However, after going to the RUG, you figure out there may be numerous ways to achieve this result... in my case, using AIE instead of all this development. Anyway, I know this is one of many responses to your post but definitely go... and have a great time... Plus, it's Vegas! P.S. I know there is some breakfast items and things in the morning but if any of you want a PHENOMENAL meal, go to a place called "Mon Ami Gabi" located in the Paris casino. The best Butterscotch Waffles and cream I've had... EVER. :) Tauf Chowdhury | Forest Laboratories, Inc.
