Sam,

This is the first RUG I'll be missing since 1995 other than the "P" year
and I'm heart-broken. Family obligations require that I be here while
they are visiting (darn) and I couldn't get them to change their week.
I'll be missing the learning and all the people I enjoy talking too :(

I would have paid for the conference myself if my employer would not
it's that valuable! Everyone starts off inexperienced, but by attending
you'll be exposed to alot of information that you'll be able to utilize
for years. Don't let the mention of party throw you off .... you will
receive so much information I guarantee that you'll wonder how your
brain can absorb that much.

Take notes. Sure you'll get the ppt presentations (and don't rewrite
all that info) but when you make a note make it thorough. You think
you'll remember some shortened idea until you look at it the following
week. Presenters live for Questions, they feel unloved if there aren't
alot of questions. Don't worry that it's too simple, they love those
too!

Talk to people. People sitting next to you, people waiting in line with
you, people at your lunch table, breakfast area, people everywhere. One
thing about Remedy people, they love to share. If you're shy about
approaching people just ask someone an open-ended question, they'll take
it from there.

Don't hesitate to say proudly you are new to Remedy. People will take
you under their wing. But make sure you circulate and talk to many
people ... no issue hitting 25 a day minimum.

Make sure you get enough sleep. A little over loaded at end of first
day will feel fatiguing but if you don't allow for adequate sleep you'll
be exhausted by night with Engineering. This is a great place to move
from group to group and listen. Of course ask questions if you have
one, but these are real people questions, things others have
experienced. You may think it doesn't pertain to something you're doing
but a tidbit will be stored for future reference in your brain and the
light bulb will come on to ask a new question when the time arrives.
Don't underestimate Friday's session. You'll be tired but there may be
a repeat of something you missed due to conflicts or something you want
to hear over. It's all about pacing yourself. Sometimes it's even good
to take 30 minutes and find someplace quiet to sit, your room, a corner
(not a bar ... lol) and relax. It will refresh you.

I have a few tears welling my eyes because I'm going to miss this, so
I'd like to take solace in knowing a newbie will be enjoying the
experience .... GO!!!!

GO!!!

Susan

Regarding the WWRUG in Las Vegas... I'd like to come to it, my
company is willing to send me, but I have a concern that the sessions
are going to be so far over my head that little of it will make much
sense (read, I'm very inexperienced with Remedy, etc.) As an example, I
posted a question on this list about being able to display certain items
in the Atrium Core Console... the one reply I got ended with the line "I
have a question - how much experience do you have with CMDB?", leading
me to feel even more out of place on this list. (I subscribed to it in
hopes of learning more about Remedy, Atrium, ITSM, etc. I have to admit
that most of the questions posted here are beyond my understanding.) I
appreciated the gentlemen who tried to help me, and I don't think he
meant anything negative in what he asked. But it did give me cause to
worry about spending so much money on the WWRUG given my lack of
knowledge of the product.

I guess what I'm asking is, will there be some of WWRUG geared
to those with not a lot of experience with the various products?

        Thank you for your time,
        Sam
