I just tried on a VM, it's ITSM 8+, pre load took around 13 minutes to complete (just after installation).
I wonder if that's the kind of timing that is "normal" or not?
The main difference compared to 7.6.04 (last time I checked) is that you can use the VM in the meantime, before it was simply impossible, all cpu went to the preload...

Midtier pre-load timings had been one of major pain points, taking way too long to complete, slow and CPU intensive- adding to downtime.
The pre-load timings of Midtier have been optimized in 7604 SP4 and onwards. To quantify the improvements, the pre-load timings have been reduced by 75% and CPU utilization during pre-load has been reduced by 50%.
Also a visual “Preload indicator” is available as part of latest cumulative hot fix for 7604 SP4. Earlier one had to rely on Mid-tier logs to check things here.
The said changes are part of Midtier 8.0 as well.
