Hmmm.... well apparently the Aliant division of Bell around here doesn't provide CPD unless you have a business line. And I wouldn't want them to bump people to business grade service just to have that. Seems to be like getting a Yellow Pages listing. All of a sudden you have a business number and they charge you accordingly.

The card Syd mentions (X100P) is about as functional and cheap as they
get. The only issue I has was problems with the server not realizing
that the line is hung, necessitating a manual hangup from the FOP. Oh,
yea, and some of these don't work in a fast motherboard. But ever since
we switched to the cable co. as our main line provider, the line hangup
hasn't been an issue. (Anyone?) Is that because they do supervised
disconnect on their lines by default (Unlike Bell)? I also noticed that
the wall phone blings when the caller hangs up. Interesting side effect.

Bell Canada most certainly does provide CPD (they drop battery) -- The x100p is just a specific brand of winmodem, and if you buy the same chipset modem as the x100p, you may still have a variety of hybrid circuits to deal with.

It's a good starter card for getting one's feet wet, but it's important to keep in mind that the problems the the x100p has aren't indicative of VOIP in general.
