Syd there is _nothing_ wrong with m0n0wall. In fact, putting that on an
embedded platform like Wrap or Alix is a highly recommended solution.
(http://www.pcengines.ch/alix.htm) This is the solution I have at the
primary site.

As for the question of last week ... it just so happened we moved my
mother-in-law into a seniors building and she couldn't take her phone number
with her. So we LNP'd it to Unlimitel and put OpenWRT & Asterisk on her
existing WRT54GS. Installed QoS from the repository and added 1 requalify
rule for UDP 10000-10050 (changed rtp.conf) and it works fabulously. I
uploaded a huge file to my server and had 2 torrents (1 up/1 dn) going and
it was flawless.

Subject: Re: [on-asterisk] What traffic shaping works for you re:torrents

Thanks to everyone who replied with their torrent blaster techniques.
It was sheer co-incidence that the same question was asked on slashdot.
I guess this is a hot topic with kids on summer break. Anyway, I
cheapened out and fired up a spare server with MonoWall.

I am really happy with this solution. I am running off the bootable CD
and saving my configuration to a floppy disk. I was able to see it
perform in a real world test and it worked flawlessly. I did run into
trouble using the latest 1.3b11 beta release and reverted back to the
stable 1.222 version. I couldn't get remote ata's working.

I went to cbc.ca/marketwatch to find a speedtest app, that site
redirected me to some speedtest site that did a great job at providing
me with my upload and download limits. After that, I used the magic
traffic shaper wizard and then added a couple of entries into the rules
to set traffic along voip ports at high priority. You will likely still
need to tweak a bit however the whole ordeal was relatively simple.

If I had a spare d-link (or is it linksys) router then that would have
been my second preferred choice, running tomato firmware.
