I use IPCop with great success but unfortunately that involves a
separate server. It's a great firewall/router but it *is* getting a bit
long in the tooth. It's due for a minor update soon and hopefully a
major update to 2.0 won't be to far away.
It's a simple QOS but there are some advanced addons available.
Personally I find that the simple QOS works fine for me.
I theory this can run in a virtual machine but I prefer a separate,
purposed system. (HP/Compaq D510SFF). These SFF systems can be picked up
for ~CAD$100 on eBay.
Other similar solutions are M0n0wall, Smoothwall & pfsense. (IPCop was
based on Smoothwall but has progressively moved away from that code base).
Some people say ClarkConnect works but I find that it's a bit much. It's
more than a firewall/router.
It's too early in the AM but there IS a traffic shaping daemon for
Linux. I can't remember what it is right now. There shouldn't be any
problem adding that to a * box (if it isn't already there).

Arrgg!.. Teenagers and their torrents.. any suggestions? I need a
traffic shaping solution. No too fond of firing up another server.
Maybe a better router that also supports wireless. QOS; does diddly.
Suggestions?
