I wanted to follow up on the ntpd hang problem. As suggested, I placed an
IP for the ntp address and it still hung indefinitely.

As mentioned, I am trying to run Astlinux in standalone mode behind a NAT
router. I need VLANS and DHCP options to pass along to the phones for the
boot server configurations.

I know that others are using this or a similar setup. How are others doing
this with assigning different DHCP scopes to the VLANS. AS previously
mentioned, I couldn't get ETH0 to assign VLANS and not sure if the scripts
support DHCP on ETH0/WAN. So to use the standard configs we would have to
use ETH1 as the internal interface supporting VLANS and DHCP. We have no
ETH0 or WAN interface and with ntpd hanging on the wan interface is a
problem.

Hopefully Lonnie will pop his head in here. I changed from openntp to
ntp in the latest images (Kevin please reference the SVN number so we
know for sure that is the case). There should be a timeout after which
booting should proceed. We may need to make some adjustments though in
the init script.

ntp resolves some issues we were seeing with openntp which is why I made
the switch. This is why we are doing the extended testing though.

Lonnie, do you have any ideas on how to resolve this hang? I thought
ntp would gracefully exit if the ntp server could not be reached
immediately. (or is this because the ntp server is specified by name
and not by IP address?)

Kevin, give that a try. Put in a known good ntp server by IP address
instead of by name in the rc.conf file to see if that helps at all.

Thanks for helping test.
