I reinstalled the Runnix image and then copied over the 
astlinux-trunk-1754-via.tar.gz <astlinux-trunk-1754-via.tar.gz> files 
and Astlinx booted up fine.  I did not need to change any USB settings, 
this image's configuration is just much more compatible that the 
others.  Many thanks for your time.

One other point of feedback which relates to the Runnix image with this 
particular hardware (NeoWare E140), rather than the Astlinux images, is 
that it is not that happy with flushing the disk cache.  Copying 
AstLinux files from a mounted USB stick to /mnt/base/os (using "cp") 
results in them being absent after a reboot.  It requires a "sync" 
command in order to make these files sticky.

Next onto making a key disk.
