What exact hardware are you using?  You can always pull the CF card out 
and even modify the files on even a Windows machine.

I don't think this is a usb issue, if you're not using the usb, turn 
them off.  Are you 100% sure that this is actually hanging up?  How long 
are you waiting before giving up?  There may actually be activity while 
the screen is blank.

Not currently.  We could add some debug stops and drops to shell where 
appropriate, but we haven't done that yet.
