Just because some people are cynical about the high end industry, doesn't mean there isn't a viable market for high end products. Similarly, I suspect that SD are not in business to earn respect, although the way they do business, it's highly likely that they will and that's a nice side benefit. The measure of whether or not they've missed the mark will not be respect or lack of cynicism, it will be how well the Transporter sells, generates interest in the company which trickles down to the 'affordable' products and/or proves to be a useful technology development platform for ideas which find their way into future products. I suspect it will do all three.
