My 2 cents (no pence here). I generally agree with Phil and Pat but its important to be precise with language. What I think you are after is to have source, amplification and speakers all commensurate in performance. Otherwise one of these elements is going to act as a bottleneck. Not equal in cost. Cost and performance level will be very different things when viewed across the three categories of source, amplification and speakers.
For instance I chose the Quicksilver V4 Monos to drive my Vandersteen 5A's because they are commensurate in performance. Richard Vandersteen uses this same combination, in fact. Retail cost of the V4s is 26% the retail cost of the Vandersteens. Equal cost is of course easier to calculate but this is another case of the easy answer leading you down the wrong path. And we are not even entertaining discussion of what amp works well with what speakers etc. as that is a whole 'nother conversation... -- atkinsonrr ------------------------------------------------------------------------ atkinsonrr's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7214 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=28057 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
