Don't get hung up on B&W's.  Except for the top of the line -- and even
then -- there are better, more neutral speakers for the same or less
money.  

Adamslim's advice is good: find a system you and work toward that.

Meanwhile, recognize that the greatest variable, by far, are your
speakers.  Look at Dali, Harbeth, Quad, and Gradient for speakers  with
superb linearity.  They are all within your price range.  At the
appropriate price point, and especially used, they will blow away B&W. 
They all have different characters.  There are others, too.

Anyway, that's the thing -- keep the electronics you have and upgrade
your main speakers.  Deal with your room, if you can.  THEN start
looking at electronics.  Source first, then amplifier (why?  Please, no
one flame me, but the fact is that most high-end solid state amplifiers
really are about as good as it gets and the differences are nuanced;
not so with speakers!)
