I agree that the speakers have the most character, in most systems, but
still reiterate my main post: find a system that you really like.

Please ignore totally what you currently have and how sane any upgrade
path may seem before you start - that's just a detail. Get to a
dealer, and I recommend you to try several, as a SET-loving dealer is
unlikely to stock heavyweight Krells, and vice versa. Play music you
like and settle on a system that you would really like to own and
listen to daily.

Once you know your true path (Grasshopper), you can start to work out
the detail of how you're actually going to get there with the system
you currently have and the spare cash you can hide from the wife. But
make sure you have a goal, or all you'll do is upgrade for ever.

In terms of your specific dilemma, I suspect you may be proposing a
slightly mismatched system. A $2k multichannel amp is unlikely to be
an ideal match with a $5k serious speaker, and the fact that you can't
audition it also gives me cause for concern.

I know the B&Ws and know that they respond well to very serious amps -
I last heard them with huge Chords, and they sounded great (although
the system was not the way I'd spend that much cash!) - so be careful.
However, I am not familiar with these amps.

Given how much you seem willing to spend, you should be able to get a
really wonderful system. The last thing you want to do is buy an amp
then spend loads on huge speakers and then be unhappy until you've
spent several times that on the amp you need to drive them to your
satisfaction!
