Tom, You did not tell whether you tried this with your Lavry or the Sonic Frontiers. I think the Lavry is pretty much immune to jitter from sources. I have the Zu Ash and the Sound Professionals Glass toslink. I prefer the Glass toslink with my SB3. Though the differences are not that obvious. with my Philips 963sa the glass toslink was clearly better than the Zu Ash.
