I've got to agree with you there, so that'll be $/£10 for a cable,
anything else is a waste of money.

That's not strictly true in communications, networking yes but the
cable runs I mentioned are pure bits, there are no protocols or error
correction performed on them. Single bit errors are counted but they
don't occur in the cables unless there is a fault.
