It's pretty easy to test more directly - just send out an sp/dif signal
from the SB, say run it along a cable you want to test and then record
it on the other end using a computer.  Now you have two digital files -
the one you sent and the one you recorded, and you can compare them.  I
haven't done that, but many others have, and I've never heard of a case
where they weren't identical (apart from the phase flip problem in the
early firmware releases, which might have been caught this way).
