You're losing me folks. 24 bit output, but 16 at full volume? Of course you're losing SNR - but that's true for analog devices too, right? You would lose dynamics too, but then again - that's true for analog devices too, right? Lowering the volume should mean that you have less room to play with, no matter what?
Sorry for opening up a pandoras box, I didn't realize this was so hard to answer. Why is the digital volume control such a bad thing?
