Just a quick up date on my set up since I started this whole discussion.
I got hold of a 1/16" hex key today so was able to crack open the
Transporter and get at the attenuation jumpers.

As I had been listening at between -25dB and -35dB over the weekend I
went for the -20dB jumper setting. Quick testing indicates that the
volume control can now be set at between about -7dB and -12dB for a
normal range of listening. I reckon this should put me well out of any
danger zone and give me a bit in reserve for those times when the
neighbours are away and the family is out (all too rare..)
