Yes, because you don't really have 8 "free" bits to play around with. The point I was trying to make is that saying something is "bit perfect" is kind of misleading, and at the very least, should be qualified. By the way, I use the digital attenuation, but don't usually go below 30 (out of 40). It is worth asking the question, is it better to have full volume (hence, 16-bit) or turn it down one step and have 24-bit output "bit perfect" signal. Wouldn't most of us assume the optimum is the 16-bit? There seems to be a paradox, and I don't know enough about the SB3 to solve it.
