I'm surprised by this. I've compared the SB3 output against a Naim CD5. Although initially I thought the CD5 was way ahead, after the output levels were matched (my Nait5 amp allows this to be set for different inputs) I found very little difference. Any difference was merely in presentation. Anyway I got my daughter to also test, at her age she has good ears. The outcome was she couldn't tell the difference, although initially she swore the CD5 was better. Although I do like the different presentation of the CD5 I found myself using the SB3 much more and sold the cd player. If I was to get a dac for the SB3, which I have thought of, it would have to be a good one to beat the dac thats already in it.
