I checked this and I beleieve Linn is using the default setting of -5. I have seen the same happen; high FLAC compression and 24 bit audio can produce the "burbling" effect you describe. Reencoding to -0 or -1 fixes this (I use an SB2). I noticed this first on material I recorded myself, and later also on files from High Definition Tapetransfes and Linn.
