Speakers are a personal choice. The Sonus Faber Concertino Domus are
nice starting monitor speakers and pfarrell is correct that to get your
moneys worth out of them you need stands. You also need to be away from
the rear and side walls.

My suggestion would be to do some listening to your type of music on
different speakers in your price range. My last thoughts would be if
you have to put money into large expensive stands to get the proper
sound and performance out of the speaker why not put that money into a
full range floor standing speaker. I keep going back to my opinion that
you might be better off taking some time to listen to Thiels or
Vandersteens before parting with your cash. No need for stands, the
speakers are just as efficient (if not more), go down lower in the base
(for jazz and classical that you listen to). If you like the way they
sound, look for a used pair on Audiogon as in Thiel point 5s, 1.4, 2.3s
used, Vandersteen Model 1C (New), Vandy Model 2s used are all in your
budget range. With the Model 2s you would even move up to a speaker
with a true midrange. All these speakers also have the advantages of
first order cross-overs and are time and phase correct. Just some
additional things to think about, by the way, what lines does your
local dealer carry in speakers?
