Yes, while I agree that a good off-site backup made on tapes is always
the best solution reliability-wise, in this particular case it's not
efficient because there is already quadruple redundancy. It's cheaper,
faster and more convenient to backup on 1, 2, 3 external disks and keep
them separately.

Speaking of the future, keeping data on-site will be fortunately
eliminated. Look at Sun Microsystems initiatives from years back.
Simple, cheap, replaceable home appliances/thin clients, fast network
connection and the rest is not your business. But not now.
