Yeah, anechoic chambers are very strange.

We had one at University when I did my degree (Electroacoustics). We 
earned beer money by participating in hearing defender testing + 
measurement in the chamber. If you sit in the room for a while and let 
your ears adjust, all you can hear is the sound of the blood rushing 
through your body. Most odd.
