I thought analog attenuation reduced the signal and noise together,
which would leave the ratio between the two the same, e.g.
signal=10/noise=1 attenuated to signal=5/noise=.5 is still a ratio of
10 to 1 and the same SNR. 

Apologies if this is wrong or I misunderstood the noise you refer to
that is added by the analog scenario.
