My DVR and any some oher Hd/DVD recorders have fans in em that go bad , I have disconnected em in my stuff - prolly not good for their lifespans , but the whirring was making me dilly. Check the fans , clean em (blow dust off) and spray a little wd40 in the moving parts , that often silences em big time. A service to the fridge and a little lube as well as trying to decouple vibrating parts (use kitchen sponges stuffed around loose places or supporting a loose coil etc) If the fridge has an air recirculating fan in it , it too might need a lube etc.
