The DAC1-Pre is flawed as a preamp because it only has one analogue input. I'd suggest a DAC1 USB instead for this purpose; it's rather cheaper, too. Of course, if you have multiple digital sources you'd like to use through the DAC then the Transporter simply won't do the same job.
My Musical Fidelity X-DAC V8 acts as a digital source selector via remote, which is nice, though it doesn't have any optical inputs (just 3 coaxial and one USB). I still have my Sony Minidisc deck plugged into it so could loop optical sources through that (it has 2 optical inputs and one coaxial, plus optical and coaxial outputs). No idea what it does to the jitter; I don't really use that function but again it would be controllable by the Sony remote. There does seem to be a paucity of products doing this job, though - often multiple inputs to a DAC are simply there to provide a choice of optical, coaxial and USB. But if you're spending quite a bit of money on the DAC, surely it stands to reason that you'll want to run most/all of your digital sources through it? -- SJobson ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SJobson's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16336 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51868 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
