Thanks to all for the comments and opinions. As for lack of remote, this is obviously a 'show-stopper' for Cliveb. I can understand that POV. I owned a Classe Six preamp before my current AR Ref 1, and I have really come to appreciate remote volume control. However, a good part of my listening still 'revolves' around LPs.. I have 10x more LPs than cds (4000+ LPs to 400+ CDs).. so getting up and having to to "do" something while listening is a part of 'what I do'. A preamp remote is not a requirement for me. SJohnson.. how many analogue inputs do you have? I have two.. my phono preamp and my tuner. If I got the DAC1-pre/Duet instead of the Transporter, I'd do away with the tuner and replace it with the internet radio streaming from the Duet. One analogue input would be fine. I suspect it would be fine with many potential customers. Why the DAC1-pre instead of just the DAC1 or Transporter feeding my Ref 1?.. well, my Ref 1 and VT200 generate a lot of "warmth" in my listening room. That's really nice in the spring, fall and winter.. not so great in the summer. I'd like to have a solid-state backup set when I just want to do some casual listening.. the DAC1-pre gets me started down that road. Coppo... All of this would be a moot point if the Transporter solution delivers a higher-quality sound. You mentioned in your post that "I think the DAC1 falls short in various ways". Could you elaborate? I would appreciate the input. Again, thanks to all.. many things to consider.
