No, that's a ground-loop insulator although it might help when it has a
transformer. You get active monitors with balanced inputs. They make it
like that because one will tend to have long cable-runs to these
speakers and unbalanced tend to pick up noise over distances. When you
connect them unbalanced, like you plan to do, you defeat/void that
mechanism. You could insert a pre-amp that has balanced outputs and use
the balanced feed like intended. When components are close together, the
problem is way less because the cables are short. read this for general

There's another way: build yourself a balanced output-stage for the SB
!! You can buy 1-chip-per-channel solutions for that which are okay for
high-end use (Texas Instruments). Now -that's- a good mod!
