No, that's a ground-loop insulator although it might help when it has a transformer. You get active monitors with balanced inputs. They make it like that because one will tend to have long cable-runs to these speakers and unbalanced tend to pick up noise over distances. When you connect them unbalanced, like you plan to do, you defeat/void that mechanism. You could insert a pre-amp that has balanced outputs and use the balanced feed like intended. When components are close together, the problem is way less because the cables are short. read this for general info: http://www.balanced.com/faq/balanced.html There's another way: build yourself a balanced output-stage for the SB !! You can buy 1-chip-per-channel solutions for that which are okay for high-end use (Texas Instruments). Now -that's- a good mod! cheers, Nick. -- DeVerm ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DeVerm's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18104 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53262 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/audiophiles
