I do enjoy high dynamic-range mastering and always encountered some albums that were unbearable in that aspect... both on vinyl and CD. With this current loudness war thing going on I should be unlucky too but fortunately I already have everything I like most as good mastered redbook/flac. Some new stuff is still good though. I would be really happy with 24-bit like 44.2/24 (the sample-rate is fine with me/my ears.) tell me where the distortion you refer to is heard best in that song (time-code)?
