Well, that's interesting - although you have to take such reports in the popular press with a tablespoon of salt. In my field I find that the percentage of reports which appear in the major media and are substantially correct is really quite small (not excepting the ones about my own work!). But anyway, if it's true it may mean we need a digital standard with higher sample rate. That's all. I think standard vinyl records can at best get up to 30kHz, and only when brand new - a few plays smooths them out considerably.
