And that's fine if it's a small number. 

I am currently testing going direct and have met with some success and
am curious how many other people have removed what might very well be
an unnecessary, or at least possibly a redundant, component from their
audio chain.

Those who have succeeded are encouraged to list the components that
they have used to go direct.
