For the difference in money and his equipment level, I don't know that I could agree with that. I surely agree that the Transporter is better and worth every penny in my system. But a Transporter being used with a Receiver and Paradigm Speakers using RCA outs is an expensive source component. If he was using separates and could use balanced outs, then if he has money laying around that needs spent on audio equipment, then sure. So is the TP the best, in my opinion it is. Is it 'worth' doing in his system, in my opinion no. I would rather see him spend money on better amplification. Don't know what Onkyo receiver he has, but I would bet it doesn't have enough current and headroom for the room he described. It is rare that the source is the issue when sound is lacking in volume or presence (unless we are talking about high end amps and speakers already, and a crappy source), it is usually the amp and/or speakers (read Receiver if one is being used). Would a Touch be better then the Duet Receiver, by a little bit in his system probably. The Transporter would obviously be better, but would he hear $1500 better in his current system, hard to say. I lean toward no, not really. If he bought a TP, I would recommend buying a new amp (balanced inputs is possible) and driving it with the TP. An easy test would be to borrow an amp from a local shop to demo and use the Duet Receiver to drive the amp using his current speakers. If there is a huge improvement from doing this demo, then the Onkyo is the issue not his source. My neighbor had a high end expensive receive and was complaining that his listening room seemed 'vague'. So I took my Adcom GFA-555 out of storage and ran his Duet Receiver directly into it using his speakers. He now has separates in his listening room and moved the Receiver to the living room. Have I listened to RonM's system, I haven't. I can only think about what it might be and what 'might' happen. But I do know one thing, before I spent $2000 on a Transporter, I would make sure my speakers and especially my amp/receiver were up to the task and not actually the reason/problem (unless I'm looking for an excuse to buy both ;=} ) for making me think I 'need' the Transporter. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Second Boom Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79496 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
