Some very good points, but what about the non-vanity part of a TP II? As it being the top of their NMP line for a whole house system? I think it might be safe to say that people that have multiple Squeezeboxen might also have a Media or Listening room. I think the Touch makes a great digital transport but how does it look in a rack of all 19 inch equipment. Maybe its just the time I grew up in, but Touch looks out of place or more like only a clock when its in my main source audio rack. There is something to be said for 'Rounding' out the line with a 'Audiophile Unit' that also has an audiophile look to it. By default it becomes the Flagship of your NMP product line and a means to say that the other Squeezebox trickle down from this lineage. I think it is save to say that most high dollar Flagship products are not a company's best seller. More like an engineering development platform and since we did all this work, we should at least sell them with a better then average margin to those that want the best we have. Granted this does not go with the Computer Peripherals model of the main Logitech product line, but it does have something to do with three recent acquisitions ($500 remotes, $1000 custom earphones, and $2000 NMPs). All those mice and keyboard sales have allowed Logitech to stretch out and buy other product lines. Just the fact that those sales lead to acquisitions means Logitech could easily carry a TP II development and sales program to produce a new Flagship NMP for the Squeezebox line. TP II is never going to match Mice/Keyboard volumes much less even Touch numbers, but Transporter is Stereophile Rated, why would you give that feather away? My own TP purchase was based on hearing my first SB3 and thinking if they can do that with the SB3, I want to stop imagining what they can do with the Transporter. I have never been disappointed with those thoughts or my TP purchase. Sure I am biased, I own a Transporter. And as an owner of multiple Squeezeboxen, I would buy a TP II in a heartbeat if it was an improvement over the current TP (not just a new box so touch screen can be used instead of VFD). TP II could be that complete all in one product it seems the public is looking for because its 19 inch rack mount size has the room needed for more CPU/RAM, a USB hub, Full SBS onboard, ripping software for a USB Optical drive, and so on. Let the customer add what outside accessories he wants or needs per his situation. TP II could easily take market share from Olive and Sonos if the Users and Audio Community were part of its development before a prototype was even build. The object, build a product that doesn't need marketing because its already what the public wants. Don't build a product then market it in hopes it sells. If we are going to speculate, why not be as positive as possible instead of giving Logitech just what they want to hear not to go forward? -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1 Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Second Boom Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive ------------------------------------------------------------------------ iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80282 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
