Hello again:

First of all, thanks to all of you who responded. You’ve given me good
advice and I appreciate it. My “thank you” is tardy because we were
without internet service for two days. We live in a rural area and I
have limited ISP options. I envy friends that have cable, DSL, etc.

To those suggesting I sell my Sony CD player – that’s not going to
happen. I use it regularly to listen to borrowed discs from the
library.

I haven’t tabulated your votes but there clearly isn’t a “landslide” of
opinions one way or another on my original question. Right now I find
myself leaning toward adding a DAC rather than a Touch. Although I
still am considering the “Dac Magic” from Cambridge, I am also going to
research the Music Fidelity M1. This is a DAC that Phil Leigh (whose
postings have impressed me) is apparently purchasing. It is a little
more expensive than the Dac Magic, but may be worth the additional
outlay. Also, there is a new DAC being introduced by Emotiva (XDA-1)
that may be worth considering.

Earwax9, I’m not clear on your recommendation regarding WAV vs. FLAC.
I, too, am a user of dBpoweramp (great program!). I used it to rip to
FLAC/uncompressed. I’m pretty sure FLAC has a broad base of support as
an excellent format for high quality digital recordings. Care to
elaborate?

Thanks again,

Dave
