There are a growing number of DACs (such as Wyred4Sounds DAC-2) which
have built in USB inputs which interface internally using I2S. The
idea is to completely remove the need for SPDIF which is seen by many
to be a flawed interface. It is possible that such a DAC 'may' sound
better over USB than SPDIF to a Touch. However most such DACs require
custom drivers which will likely never be available for the Touch (or
any Linux system for that matter), so we will never know.

Cheers.
