I used to own the Benchmark DAC1, and formed the same opinion as you. I
sold it when I got my SB Touch, and ran without a DAC for about 1 year.
Lately, with my Rega DAC in the system I now have the most enjoyable
sound I ever I had in my modest system. The Rega DAC has settled in to
an unforced, rich and musically involving sound that will keep me
satisfied in the digital source department for the foreseeable future!
