I don't know really ,just a gradual awakening I think powered by various
experiences (described here and there ) I was into Hi-Fi very early in
life , but once you go down that road and think again and test again and
gain knowledge and experience then it accelerates and you pop out to
reality again :)
(it's a runaway effect ) and suddenly it all hit you in your face. I
recommend large amount of grain alcohol to soothe this experience , the
double whammy is my engineer degree and practical field experience with
electronics (not audio ) .
This helps my to understand what’s probably boll*cks ,just by a
quick glance nowadays ,but also that I should have realised this much
earlier as do use some signal thery in my daily work.

So yes my earlier experiences was coloured by large amounts of
exceptional bias and probably not what it though they where and actually
as it come on to me gradually at my last investment (he he) in expensive
speaker cables I thought it was really hard to tell the difference
really hard ? but the little I heard must have been that improvement
right :) ? and the law of diminishing return (or no return is turned out
to be ) .
Now if do use my brain one simply realises that with 2 meters of
speaker-cable and a relative benign 4ohm load with some minor ups and
downs no 0,1 -100 ohm variations almost anything thick enough would do .
And by all means if i had a very difficult speaker a suitable cable
would not be very expensive anyway , it does not have to be hand beaten
silver done in the moonlight by Peruvian virgins...

My interest in science has been constant over the years which also
accumulates knowledge .
And the widespread new age and alternative therapy/medicine UFO
religions , astrology etc have made me really worried so I'm actually a
member of a sceptic society ,and thats the only kind of charity i give
(small amounts ) of money to .
This is much bigger problem than people realise it even permeates
educational systems BS science papers get published , creationism
,astro-archaeology etcall total crackpots .
Media publish just anything without any source critic at all see for
example "ancient aliens" or any off the dozen TV shows with mediums
speaking with the dead etc .

So I see the audiophile cult just as a niche in a larger problem , that
is the general belief in pseudo-sciences and other such stuff ,
especially privately knowing people nearly absorbed by cults or pyramid
home sales schemes etc.

But as I see it, audiophile beliefs are not harmless outside the audio
interest as it provides yet another arena for uncritical thinking .
