I doubt any of us will agree with any given person ALL of the time. We are all individuals. The industry media aren't all the same. It isn't just the USA either. Sure, there are going to be guys we can't respect on nearly anything, but let's now throw the baby out with the bathwater. And frankly, it's up to us to LISTEN and remain open-minded, yet vigilent. I try to be VERY careful about jumping to conclusions based on a single personal experience. I, for one, will only make a rock solid conclusion when I can spend time in my own listening environment. My room is fairly quiet and I know how my CDs sound. Any dramatic change, say, with new speakers will be obvious to me. The front end has the 2nd most sweeping impact, which I suppose my be disputed here for some reason, but anyhow I can hear small changes readily in my space.
We first must come to agreement on S/PDIF. If anyone is having trouble with prior point, then let's hear it. I would not invest heavily in an outboard DAC for which must be connect to the source component with coax (RCA). Granted, there is a very impressive upgrade in many aspects of sound quality when I use the digital outs of the Transporter and inputs on my Cary (over the analog outs of the Transporter). It is, again, not subtle by any reasonable man standard and would be related to the implementation of the digital section and the analog output stage (and the power supply, etc). But then I use the Cary disc spinner and there is yet another, though more subtle, sound quality improvement. This is where my S/PDIF point comes into play. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ jh901's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=18175 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97489 _______________________________________________ audiophiles mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles
