All I can do is ask you to step back from this comment. S/PDIF
interface has inherent problems related to PLL, etc. If we brought
forward a panel of top audio engineers in the digital space, then there
would be little disagreement. I had never thought about this before
until I heard it. No expectation bias either. I heard it, THEN I
started asking questions. Bottom line for our purposes is that the
interface for the Squeezebox products has this shortcoming for someone
investing major coin into a stand-alone DAC.

I'm more excited about digital than ever. By a long shot. Upgrading
from the Duet to the Transporter was a great experience. (And I won't
even go into the revelation of discovering the Duet to begin with)
Going from the Transporter way up the food chain to the Cary had a
profound impact on the way I think about the way reproduced sound can be
presented. I just so happened that I stumbled onto the S/PDIF thing.
Not convenient. But reality.

If I could have a "Transporter PLUS" with the Cary's circuitery
(including DSD) and an SACD disc spinner which could connect to the
Transporter PLUS at under $10 grand then I'd be golden. I thought I'd
be fine with S/PDIF in my current set-up, but when I hear something
better (such as playing CDs with the Cary alone) and discover what I
should have known, then I can't just forget it!
